The Holocaust didn’t end at liberation. Those born in the generations that followed still feel its deep and resounding imprint on their hearts, minds and lives. Do you have a personal story about how the legacy of the Holocaust impacts your life or someone you know? Do you grieve, suffer, hope or heal? Was an important lesson learned? This isn’t the

Step 2: Carefully Read Submissions Guidelines

Submission Guidelines

The Braid produces contemporary American stories that have some Jewish content or Jewish resonance.  Most of the stories are true.  If you want to see your work performed on our stage, your best chance is to submit a first-person narrative OR a short story that is no longer than 1500 words AND illuminates a theme that The Braid is exploring in the upcoming seasons (themes listed below.)  Stories, one-acts, poems or songs will be considered.  Sometimes we incorporate short, 5-8 minute plays into these salons if they fit the theme.

We are not taking submissions for full length plays this season.

Please do not submit your work unless it fits a theme.

No, you need not be Jewish to submit, but we prefer work have some Jewish content or Jewish resonance.

All genders are welcome and encouraged to write for The Braid.

Yes, all works are given an honorarium based on how many times the piece is performed.

Of course, you are Jewish.

Gladly and with great interest.  We love stories from Jews from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

One acts that run longer than 8 minutes will not be considered.

Please, do not submit works with large casts.  Our stage is small.

Previously produced or published work is welcome. Please include production and/or publication history.

We encourage composers, song-writers, and performers to submit one song from a musical, or one scene with a song.  Full length musicals will be rejected without reading.

We read every piece submitted at least twice, a process that takes time. If we plan to use your work in an upcoming show, we will contact you by email within one month of that performance. Please check our website for posting of performance dates. If we cannot use your piece this season, we will keep it in our files for future use, when it may be better suited to another theme.
