Have you seen the show Westworld? I’ll try not to give anything away. Westworld is the ultimate theme park – an immersive experience where guests get to spend their vacation in an authentic Western Town. The town is full of “hosts” – lifelike androids – who live their stories on constant loops, none the wiser that they are not, in fact, human.
But sometimes their stories are changed, and they go from living one life to living another. One day they are a humble rancher, the next perhaps an outlaw.
This morning I feel like I am one of the hosts.
I woke up the same and yet different – in a strange new life that is somehow completely normal. I am principal, teacher, coach, cafeteria lady and janitor all rolled into one. We are no longer wearing our emotions on our sleeves, and we are back to joking. Life is surprisingly lighter during this heavy time. Which is good, as we share 900 square feet of space. And life’s too short to be petty during a pandemic.
But there is this nagging sensation in the back of my head, that there is something else I am supposed to be doing. Someone else I used to be.
In my new story line, I can play “Let it Be” on the ukulele.
Who knows what story I will wake up in tomorrow.
